10-Day MgO and HEMP building Workshop Details

This 10-day MgO and HEMP building workshop teaches the simplest DYI method utilizing the best combination of natural, non-toxic materials. MgO and Hemp is the ideal building material because it is non-toxic and flexible/forgiving in it’s wide variety of uses. Hemp is the perfect aggregate for this cast-in-place wall system. It’s breathability and carbon sequestering qualities makes it healthy to build and reside in!

From May October 7th through October 15th  we will be sharing our passion for Magnesium Oxide and Hemp as building materials and teaching the simple cast-in-place building method for a well insulated and sustainable wall system. We start with the lumber structure that holds the forms, discuss utility installation and then we are ready to pack the walls! After the walls are done we fill the rafters with hemp and deck the roof. Finishing includes window and door installation, MgO/hemp flooring options and stuccoing the exterior/interior.

MgO cement is an ancient material used to build the Great Wall of China and the Egyptian Pyarmids. When coupled with hemp it has a low carbon footprint, it will continue to sequester carbon even after the building is complete and it acts as a filters for the air that enters the building.  Our certified instructor will guide though all the steps of this workshop.
