Magnesium Workshop:Natural Plastering and Art Sculpting
Magnesium Workshop:Natural Plastering and Art Sculpting
with Nunu Arts and Culture Collective in Arnaudville, Louisiana
This Magnesium Workshop will focus on Natural Plastering and Sculpting with the Nunu Arts and Culture Collective in Louisiana. The collective has secured funding to create a large, outdoor, interactive art installation in their community and are interested in learning about Magnesium as a natural, alternative to use instead of toxic cement.
Magnesium Oxide (MGO) has fast hardening abilities that petrify organic materials without decomposing them like lime or cement might. By mixing MGO with Magnesium Sulfate (Epson Salt), you can create a strong, non-toxic binder. This mixture can then be mixed with other organic aggregates like bamboo, hemp, sunflower stalks, hardwood waste, walnut shells as it hardens, preserving the integrity of the natural materials.
***This workshop is already full, but if you want to learn more about sculpting or plastering with natural materials like Magnesium, please contact us. We'd love to collaborate in more projects like this in the future.
