Magnesium-Based Solutions

Reimagining Earthbuilding with Regenerative Materials

At Nomadic Earth Architecture, we believe that what we build with matters —to the land, to our bodies, and how they are affected by the natural materials we use.

That’s why we’ve developed a sustainable, low-impact approach to construction using magnesium-based materials —a regenerative technique we are pioneering that supports people, place, and planet. This innovative technique allows us to build new structures and restore aging ones—creating safe, healthy spaces where people can breathe deeply and live well.

Why Magnesium?

Magnesium-based binders offer an earth-aligned alternative to cement, with powerful environmental and health benefits:

  • Low-carbon footprint

  • Non-toxic, breathable, and safe for indoor air quality

  • Naturally mold-resistant and antimicrobial

  • Strong, durable, and adaptable

We create our binders by mixing Magnesium Oxide (MgO) with Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom salt) and water. This forms a stable, mineral-based cement that can be combined with a wide range of aggregates—including:

  • 🥥 Coconut coir

  • 🌾 Sugarcane pulp (bagasse)

  • 🌰 Crushed walnut shells

  • 🎍 Shredded bamboo

  • 🌿 Hemp hurd (our specialty)

  • 🧱 Sand, clay, or recycled earth materials

As we continue experimenting with Magnesium and exploring new mix recipes, we've discovered its many benefits—not just for us as builders working with the material like better sleep and clearer skin, but also adds needed minerals to the surrounding environment, where even the runoff from the build site is regenerative for the land, plants and animals around the buildsite.

Introducing: Hempesium

Our signature blend is a hemp-magnesium composite we call Hempesium. It mixes our magnesium binder with hemp hurd, a natural, renewable material that is lightweight, insulating, and carbon-sequestering. It’s a powerful building block for regenerative architecture, especially well-suited to wellness spaces, domes, and earthen structures. The flexibility of this material allows us to work with locally sourced, low-waste byproducts, adapting our methods to fit the ecology and economy of each community we work with.

Mold Remediation & Restorative Building

In addition to new builds, magnesium also offers an effective, non-toxic solution for mold remediation of older mold damaged buildings including crawl spaces. These techniques are ideal for climates and communities facing health threats from mold and humidity.

We teach a natural spray method using magnesium-based solutions that:

  • Gently cleanse mold without toxic chemicals

  • Restore degraded surfaces and improve longevity

  • Promote a healthy indoor microbiome

  • Provide a non-invasive solution for sensitive environments like wellness centers and sacred spaces

  • Restore surfaces damaged by water, humidity, or biological decay

These natural sprays cleanse and protect—without compromising the air, the soil, or the people inside.

What We Teach

We teach not just construction—but restoration, regeneration, and care. Our hands-on workshops are open to all skill levels. Participants learn to:

  • Mix and apply magnesium-based materials

  • Work with Hempesium and other natural composites

  • Build sculptural forms, plasters, blocks, and panels

  • Restore and remediate existing buildings

  • Honor place-based design and ecological connection

  • Experiment with sculptural finishes, texture, and natural pigments

A portion of every project supports free, community-led humanitarian projects around the world with displaced and marginalized communities.
